Our School Environment
Our school environment is very important in order for all children to benefit. We have each classroom arranged in centers which include Language, Math, Science and Discovery, Blocks, Dramatic play, Toys and Games, Art, Library and Music. By dividing the room into these different areas the children are able to make choices which helps with independence and decision making skills.
Language: this area helps the children in recognizing and writing letters, sounds, and words. Children have the opportunity to develop their language skills by matching items to their labeled shelve, playing bingo letters, match-it phonics, word sentence games, match the rhyme and much, much more.
Math: In this area the children learn matching, sorting, recognizing, tracing and counting numbers. They enjoy figuring out how things work. This center helps preschoolers with the challenge of acquiring thinking strategies to prepare them to the future.
Science and Discovery: This area is a place where children can find answers to things that they wonder about. In this area, they use their senses to touch, hear, feel, taste, smell and see. This area helps to nurture their curiosity and use their thinking skills to explore. This center promotes all areas of development.
Block area: This area offers many opportunities for learning through play. Children are able to use their imagination by building and pretending. Playing in this area promotes cooperation, sharing and problem solving skills.
Dramatic Play: Children are able to pretend to be someone or something different from himself or herself and make up situations that go along with the role they are playing. They deepen their understanding of the real world and develop valuable skills that they will be able to use later in life. This area promotes creativity and social interaction. Children are able to use a variety of props to expand their imaginations.
Toys and Games: This area includes manipulative, puzzles, matching games and table toys. These toys offer children a quiet activity they can do alone or with a friend or teacher. Children strengthen all areas for development as they play with toys and games.
Art: This area is filled with materials that children can enjoy on a sensory level. They can crate and represent their ideas in a visual form. They can draw, paint, cut, glue, and put together unique ideas of their own. They are able to express what they feel and know. This area promotes self-expression and a variety of motor skills.
Library: This area is an attractive space with soft furniture, beautiful books and writing materials. It is a place where the children can relax and learn. They develop the motivation and skills necessary to read and write. They are able to hear stories and retell their version of it. They are able to grow in all areas of development.
Music: This area is an outlet for children’s high spirits and creative energy. Music and movement experiences help to develop both sides of the brain and contribute to children’s social/emotional, physical, cognitive, and language development.
